Business Botswana, formerly BOCCIM, has partnered with Grant Thornton to recognize private citizen owned businesses that fall in the SME group, but do not mark their status as household names due to lack of recognition of their contribution to the markets in which they operate and the economy of Botswana.
To recognize businesses that have broken from the mould, Grant Thornton and Business Botswana are collaborating to present the Private Business Growth Award (PBGA).
The PBGA was launched this year as a platform to bring to the forefront businesses that have made calculated efforts to achieve overall growth in market development, innovation, people and culture, strategic leadership and financial measures. It will recognise businesses owned by citizens and residents of Botswana, that have made a conscientious effort to contribute to the economy of Botswana and to see that the Vision 2016 goal of “a Prosperous, Productive and Innovative nation” is achieved.
Companies that will be recognised are those that are on the rise and stand strong to compete with private businesses across Africa and the world. The Award will illuminate homegrown inspirational stories and inspire other businesses as well as entrepreneurs to achieve success in business in Botswana including aspects of support for Economic Diversification Drive and their contribution to the local community.
The PBGA will be given to a privately held business owned by citizens and or residents of Botswana, be audited, have a minimum of P20 million turnover, employ an excess of 25 people, be a member of Business Botswana and have been in operation for at least 3 years as at 31 March 2015.
